Our Mission

Our mission is to provide medical facilities and workplace workers a means to protect themselves while on the job.

We recognize that there is a shortage of face masks across the country as a result of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

We aim to create jobs for stay-at-home moms and dads and those whose lives have been effected by the disease by offering meaningful work and a fair wage.

We encourage everyone to help protect our environment by purchasing our eco-friendly, reusable and re-washable face masks.

For every mask that is purchased by our customers, we will donate a new one to a medical facility or workplace in need.

About Us

Donate a Mask is a rapid-response grassroots movement fiscally sponsored by the National Institute & Association for Minorities. NIAM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports underprivileged youth, women and minorities.

The grassroots initiative was started by Mai Xiong. Mai is a refugee of war –whose family fled war-torn Laos in the late 1970s. She learned how to sew at the age of 11, out of necessity to help her parents make ends meet. Mai is now a mom to four young children and a small business owner of the clothing boutique, Mai&Co in Warren, Michigan.

Mai’s family and small business was impacted by the COVID-19. Like many across the country, her children’s school closed. To protect her customers and workers and worried about the possible spread of the disease, she decided early on to close her shop to the public.

Worried about the health and safety and the financial impact the closures would have on all families and workers, she envisioned a way to help protect those still on the front-lines fighting this pandemic while still keeping her family safe at home, by doing what she knew best: to sew for a cause.

Her call for action, inspired many to help purchase a face mask or donate supplies so that she could continue to donate face masks to those who couldn’t afford one but needed it most. Her passion for helping others has created job opportunities for other stay-at-home moms and dads impacted by the pandemic, to continue working from the safety of their home.

Your personal or corporate donation is tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, the National Institute & Association for Minorities. NIAM is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Disclaimer: On 4/3/2020, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a new recommendation that individuals wear cloth masks while out in public to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Our Face Masks are not substitutes for surgical or procedural masks and are not FDA cleared. However, these masks, if used correctly, can be helpful. They are handmade with fabric that is easy to breathe through. They are washable and reusable.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the best way to prevent illness is by avoiding exposure to Covid-19. It advises, above all else, for people to avoid person-to-person contact and practice social distancing, avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth, cover coughs and sneezes with tissue or the inside of the elbow, and to frequently and thoroughly wash hands for at least 20 seconds.
